With roster strengths and weaknesses long crystallized, most people know exactly what they need. Sometimes, though, they’re too afraid to go all-out toward boosting a specific category in fear it might tank another area. As a result, good value can be overlooked. This week is all about finding players who are clearly reliable for a couple of key stats but quietly retain the potential for more (Yandy Diaz, Pablo Lopez) due to their peripheral numbers....

But that's not the week's only intriguing game. Michigan State looks to build off its dominating defensive performances with a trip to Nebraska and Oklahoma State looks to beat Texas on the Longhorns' turf. The Chargers (vs. Browns) are one waiver pickup that provides little risk, as their recent strong play couple with their dream matchup makes them a must-start. After that, the Bears (vs. 49ers – might depend on who starts at QB for San Francisco), Dolphins (vs. Broncos), Redskins (@ Cowboys) and Titans (vs. Texans) are the next top pickups options, but none of them are all that inspiring, even with some favorable matchups....

The Patriots excel at taking away what an opponent does best offensively as the defensive side of their winning game plan. The problem for Bill Belichick is that with Aaron Rodgers and Eddie Lacy, the Packers are doing everything great — even more so at Lambeau Field where they have been scoring at will of late....

Because of the strong slate, there are a lot of top-tier RBs available, several of which have excellent matchups. A couple really stood out, so we decided to spend up for them. Because both were at least $7,700, that meant spending down at WR and flex, but that was easy to do thanks to the WR value. We were able to get four worthwhile WRs that all cost between $4,200 and $5,300....

FULL QB RANKINGS Stud: Matthew Stafford, Lions (No. 2). Peyton Manning (No. 3) and Drew Brees (No. 4) are the only 300-point quarterbacks right now. Stafford is next, and he’s working on seven straight games with 20-plus points. He’ll make it eight in a shootout with Nick Foles (No. 7). Sleeper: Philip Rivers, Chargers (No. 5). Remember that time the Chargers traded Eli Manning (No. 13) for Rivers? Don’t think for a second Rivers doesn’t know that....

Last week we hit on some nice low-owned options, particularly with DeShone Kizer coming through as one of the top value quarterbacks while also helping Josh Gordon pay off his mid-tier price tag by getting him into the end zone. Hunter Henry also continued his streak of solid performances, adding a score of his own in the late-afternoon games. I’m going to continue with this theme of targeting lower ownership value plays to close the season out....

Obviously, if you have one of the top six or seven TEs, you’re in good shape, but if you’re one of the (many) owners that have been using week-to-week streamers at the position, there are plenty of solid options available. Heading into Week 3, Adam Vinatieri looks to be unownable in fantasy leagues after missing two extra points for Indianapolis on Sunday. The veteran kicker hinted at possible retirement after the game, so stay tuned on his status throughout the week. (Update: Vinatieri will remain the Colts kicker for the time being.) Graham left the game with what appeared to an ankle injury. He returned briefly after gingerly stalking the sidelines. But before long, he was walking slowly back to the locker room for further evaluation. No formal announcement was immediately made about Graham’s status. The Saints have a bye in Week 7, which will give Graham a little more time to treat whatever ails him. Ben Zobrist was good, but not worth his high salary as predicted, and Brandon Drury was respectable for his price point. Add in Tommy Joseph’s big night in last week’s DFS lineup and we had ourselves a very strong showing. But momentum is only as good as the next day’s starting pitcher, even in daily fantasy. We still tend to like kickers on good offenses playing in good conditions. It’s always critical to check weather forecasts before trusting a kicker, and that’s why grabbing a guy in a domed stadium is usually worth it on many occasions. The kickers in those scenarios usually get a boost – unless their offenses are so bad that they have literally no chance to move the ball. Of course, you could always just pick the kicker with the worst matchup and he might outproduce our top-ranked guy....
