Week 13 features matchups involving teams that have been on hot streaks, aren’t languishing around .500 and are getting superior performances out of excellent players. Turn your attention, for example, to the doubleheader game on Fox between the Panthers and Saints at the Superdome. Drew Brees, Cam Newton, Alvin Kamara, Luke Kuechly, Mark Ingram, Christian McCaffrey … lots of stars playing for the undisputed division lead on the first Sunday in December....

With no teams on bye for just the second time since Week 4, all fantasy rankings are deeper than usual. Even with players like Antonio Gibson (toe) and Josh Jacobs (ankle) dealing with injuries that could keep them out of action, there are plenty of volume-based RBs and high-upside WRs in great matchups to take advantage of. It doesn’t help that Week 1 featured mostly uninspiring performances from fantasy D/STs. Heading into Monday night, only five teams cracked double-digits in standard leagues, with the Vikings scoring the only defensive/return touchdowns. Four teams managed more than three sacks (Jets, Texans, Seahawks, Bills), and only the Panthers had multiple interceptions. Tough to find any sleepers on the waiver wire just by looking at the fantasy points scored. Both rookie starting QBs (Dak Prescott and Carson Wentz) didn’t turn the ball over, and fellow first-time starters Jimmy Garoppolo (lost fumble) and Trevor Siemian (two INTs) also looked pretty competent....

We won’t bore you with obvious starters, so don’t be too shocked when you see Trey Sermon on the list, who indeed carries more risk this week than he did footballs in Week 1. Rondale Moore showed signs of fantasy relevancy early, even with a talented group of WRs around him. Also, please don’t cringe when you see the Raiders’ defense – we have good reasons. As always, we’re not asking you to bench your early-round studs for these guys, but consider them if you have several guys up for consideration....

Is fantasy points allowed for kickers a reliable stat? This early, probably not, but at a certain point if a team is giving up a good amount of points to kickers on a weekly basis, there must be something to it…right? Heading into Week 4, the Vikings, Lions, Patriots, Texans and Colts were at the top in FPPG allowed to kickers. The Vikings only allowed one field goal (but five PATs), and the Patriots allowed a single PAT last week, bucking the trends, but Detroit and Indianapolis allowed at least three field goals each, and the Texans allowed a pair....

I typically take a cash game approach to finding value plays, and many times you don’t need to overthink rostering value plays in tournaments as long as you look to diversify your lineup in other areas. As mentioned earlier, the NFC South defenses are the ones we’re targeting with some of our top streamers. Baker Mayfield (Browns) takes on a Bucs defense that has allowed the most fantasy points per game to QBs this year. Joe Flacco (Ravens) gets the Saints and should have a chance to take down their shoddy secondary with his newfound arsenal of offensive weapons. And while we wouldn’t normally recommend starting Eli Manning, the Giants have a great matchup with a Falcons defense that’s banged up and has been torched by QBs after limiting Nick Foles in Week 1....
