It’s hard to know whether or not certain players are going to sit at the quarterback position. Right now, there are many big-name quarterbacks who could be shut down. We’ve already seen the Panthers pull the plug on Cam Newton to play Taylor Heinicke, as they did in Week 16. And now, Heinicke is out and Kyle Allen will start. Other starters that could sit if there is nothing to play for include Aaron Rodgers (Packers), Dak Prescott (Cowboys), and Drew Brees (Saints). For now, we’ll leave them in, but we’ll remove them once teams reveal their plans moving forward. (UPDATE: Teddy Bridgewater is starting in place of Drew Brees, and Dak Prescott seems unlikely to play the whole game. Brees has been removed while Prescott has been downgraded to bottom-barrel status).

With many players potentially out – and more could emerge as candidates to sit throughout the week – the streamers will be critical to any fantasy owner playing in Week 17. Some of the better options this week include Jameis Winston (vs. Falcons), Josh Allen (vs. Dolphins), and Lamar Jackson (vs. Browns). Frankly, the scrambling quarterbacks are good to use at this point in the season because they have such high floors due to their rushing ability, so targeting one of them if you normally start Rodgers or Brees would be a good move.

One injured player to keep an eye on is Marcus Mariota. The Titans starter was banged up against the Redskins, and he reportedly suffered a stinger. If he can’t go, Blaine Gabbert will start in a critical matchup with the Colts, but Gabbert isn’t a worthwhile fantasy start. So, if you’re looking to rely on Mariota, try to find another options just in case he can’t get back on the field.
