And even that player, Tyler Eifert, is a former fantasy stud. Eifert wins the “Who’s Playing Arizona This Week?” sweepstakes and will face one of the worst defenses against any position in fantasy this year. Eventually the Cardinals will keep a TE out of the end zone, but until it happens, we’re going to keep ranking tight ends highly against them.
WEEK 5 NON-PPR RANKINGS:Quarterback | Running back | Wide receiver | D/ST | Kicker
The lack of obvious, non-Arizona TE matchups to exploit is giving a “Groundhog Day” feel to our tight end rankings. It’s basically the same names at the top, just in a slightly different order. This week, Trey Burton (vs. OAK in UK) has a great matchup on paper, but with just eight catches for 41 yards through three games, it’s tough to trust him (though Chase Daniel taking over for Mitchell Trubisky might actually help). Cook, Noah Fant (@ LAC), Dawson Knox (@ TEN), and Ryan Griffin (@ PHI) also have top-10 matchups on paper, but none have been close to reliable this season.
WEEK 5 PPR RANKINGS: Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end
Talent still gets Cook ranked fairly high, which is also the case for O.J. Howard (@ NO), who continues to disappoint. It’s not crazy to take a shot with Fant or Burton over him, but just know they come with risks, too. Vernon Davis (vs. NE) takes a big hit this week because of his matchup. Ertz (vs. NYJ) and Delanie Walker (vs. BUF) also draw stingy defenses vs. TEs, but given their usual workloads (Walker’s Week 4 notwithstanding), they remain solid options.
