The animated superhero pet flick managed to snatch up the top spot at the box office this past weekend raking in $23 million dollars after Jordan Peele’s horror thriller film starring Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer, Nope had a major back slide dropping 57% at the box office this weekend. Although it took the top spot at the box office, it is not doing too hot in comparison to its predecessors, with the past DC Lego Batman Movie pulling in $53 million. Nope took the second place spot making a total of $18.6 million, which is a substantial drop from the Peele films opening weekend where it scored $44 million.
Although Nope has taken a substantial fall this weekend at the box office, most likely due to it having been in theaters for a few weeks now the film does seem like it’s on the right track to score between the range of $125 million- $130 million as the film comes the end of its time in local theaters.
With DC League of Super-Pets in the top spot at the box office for the debut of the film, its success will hopefully continue on in the coming weeks as the film strives to rake in at least enough to match its budget which was $90 million. If this happens it’ll be a success for Warner Bros/ Discovery which has to make some substantial financial changes to the studio merger, which has resulted in the cancellation and pausing of many upcoming projects the studio had in the works due to the budgeting.
Nonetheless, as the summer continues and more films continue to make their way to the box office, the top spot is yet to change once again, but for this weekend the winner is DC League of Super-Pets and the heroic pets deserve to be applauded.
