As seen in the list above, some might consider the offerings for 2017’s first Xbox Live Gold sale week to be somewhat disappointing due to the relatively small selection of titles from which to choose. However, even though the Xbox Live Gold sale won’t have what some fans are looking for, it’s important to note that Microsoft will also continue to hold its rather sizeable Countdown Sale in tandem with the Xbox Live Gold sale, with its second week having already begun.

Not only will fans who are Xbox Live Gold members be able to take advantage of price reductions on the Xbox One and Xbox 360, but also they are being given free games as well. This is thanks to Xbox’s free games with Gold program in January 2017 that offers Xbox One fans Deathtrap: World of Van Helsing during the first half of the month, and Season 2 of the fighting game Killer Instinct in the latter portion of January. Xbox 360 will receive The Cave from January 1 through January 15, and Rayman: Origins during January 16 through January 31.

While Xbox One and Xbox 360 fans feast on all of the deals that are currently available to their respective platforms, Microsoft is also set to debut another console in the Xbox family sometime in 2017 with Project Scorpio. As a matter of fact, just recently, Microsoft and Xbox executives offered details about the system in order to excite gamers for the eventual release of the upcoming console.

Not too much is known when it comes to all of the hardware that’s under the hood for Project Scorpio, so it remains to be seen what will provide Xbox fans with a solid incentive to upgrade at this point. Should Microsoft manage to continually provide decent discounts on software with events like the weekly Xbox Live Gold sales and the Countdown Sale, though, fans might be able to save a good deal of money that can be put aside for Project Scorpio once it releases.

The first weekly sale of 2017 for Xbox Live Gold members has officially begun, and ends on January 9.
