Most of the story is told through the narrator’s voice, although there are text exchanges between Jane and the NPCs. That’s the basic premise of this top-down shooter but there is so much players should learn before jumping into Weird West. Hopefully, these tips should make the journey into the dry plains a more tolerable one.
8 The Difficulty Choices
There are four difficulty modes players can choose from at the start of Weird West including Story, Normal, Hard, and Very Hard. Those names should be self-explanatory. If they aren’t each one has distinct outlines of how they change in the game.
These outlines can’t be adjusted like an assist feature in other games. For example, how much players heal from sleeping and eating can be affected along with enemy aggression. It’s probably best to start on Normal and then adjust from there because the modes can be altered once players start.
7 Healing Tips
Healing can be tricky in video games and might be something that players worry the most about before jumping into something new. Players can find various potions to beef their stats along with medkits to heal on the fly. Resources are limited, as is inventory space, so there are better ways to heal outside of battle.
Players can set up camp while they are on the world map. Sleeping then will heal the party. Players can also cook at fires either in a level or dungeon or also in camp. Finally, cactuses are a good source of healing. Just stab one and go to town on some homemade Cactus Cooler.
6 Abilities and Perks
Weird West is not a traditional RPG, but it does have elements from the genre. Players can upgrade the main heroine, Jane Bell, in two different ways. First, there are abilities that can be used in battle. These can be purchased using relics found in the world. Charm is a great first ability to purchase which can hypnotize enemies to aid players temporarily.

There are also perks which are item-based upgrades as well but they use special cards instead of relics. These are passive abilities. Some good perks to get ASAP involve scavenging for more gold in the world and a way to haggle down prices in shops.
5 Explore Thoroughly
Environments don’t have a lot of variety to them. Players may get tired of the same town, farm, or mine setups the billionth time over. However, each area should be explored thoroughly. Jane’s ranch at the start is a good example. There are tons of items there and in the first town.
Grabbing items in the town is especially important because, after the first major story mission, the town will repair itself, rendering a lot of it inaccessible. That is unless players decide to become a thief and rob the town blind. That’s a path players can take in the game, but it makes things harder.
4 Traveling Tips
Unlike a lot of RPGs, quest lines can become inaccessible if players take too long. For example, if players take up a bounty while in town, they will have to complete that mission before the day counter runs out. It’s a good idea to plan out routes while on the world map.
Make sure to do as many quests in a certain area as possible to maximize time even if they aren’t a priority. If the inventory fills up, it’s also not a bad idea to travel to a town or outpost somewhere close by to sell stuff. Quest or no quest, going into a new mission with pockets full is a bad idea.
3 Use Your Partner’s Inventory
The innovatory system in Weird West is as bad as it is in other RPGs that rely on it. Dragon Quest is a classic example that comes to mind because of how archaic it used to be for so long. If players don’t feel like going back to town after every mission or two, there are solutions in Weird West though.

Players are probably going to get more benefit out of scrapping guns instead of selling them. Bullets are important in the old west. Make sure to get a partner in town as soon as possible. They are good for fights but they can also double as inventory pack mules.
2 Gear To Pick Up
Weird West has adventure game tendencies. Certain actions require tools. Shovels are needed to dig, pickaxes for mining, and knives and tool kits for skinning animals. Players will get a shovel for story purposes at Jane’s farmhouse.
The other two might come up through exploration. Players could leave these items to chance, but they should purchase them as soon as they appear in a store. Being able to interact with every aspect of the game will net players cash and resources a lot faster. Mining ore will help upgrade weapons, for example.
1 Using Stealth Appropriately
Ammo is not a hard source to come by unlike most survival horror games. However, a taxing gunfight may leave players with not a lot of bullets. They can be purchased or scrounged off of bodies easily enough but the more players can save the better.
That’s why stealth is so important in this game. There are items players can grab in the environment, like bottles, to distract enemies. It’s a mechanic as old as stealth games so it should come naturally to players. Before an encounter, make sure to save in case things go awry.
Weird West was released on March 31, 2022, and is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
